IAMI-REDC - Universal Red Blood Cells for use in Space missions

RedC Biotech is developing an industrial process to produce universal red blood cells for life saving transfusions. Blood transfusions is crucial in medical treatments in extreme environment including space missions. Red blood cells have a unique morphology and biochemical characteristics. The Rakia space mission in collaboration with the Israel aerospace medicine institute (IAMI), focused on the critical maturation stage of progenitor cells towards mature red blood cells in microgravity aboard the International space station (ISS), compared to ground control studies on Earth. This Rakia space experiment aim to broaden the scope for production of life saving blood products on earth and for space travel.
