Drone In The ISS - First attempt at creating a fully electric device that can orientate itself in space without mechanically moving parts
Shay Monat
A novel approach to create an autonomous “space-drone” tracked Mr.Eytan Stibbe with a camera on the International Space Station (ISS) during the AX-1 mission. The device was equipped with state-of-the-art Piezo-electric thrusters to control its movement in the pressurized micro-gravity environment of the ISS. It tracked Mr. Stibbe’s face using a camera and artificial intelligence (AI) software which will be designed by the students at the Yeruham Science Center as an educational project. The thrusters were controlled by a closed-loop control law which depend on a suite of sensors and the camera to maintain a stable position relative to Mr. Stibbe.
